Destination Elopement WEDDING in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico | Michael & Michelle
After ten years together and raising three children, Michael and Michelle finally celebrated the wedding day they had always dreamed of. Their luxury destination elopement in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico combined hidden historic locations, golden hour portraits, and breathtaking sunset photography into an unforgettable experience that proves it's never too late to celebrate your love.
As golden hour gave way to sunset, a single flash transformed the historic walls of Old San Juan into a dramatic cinematic backdrop.
Some weddings begin with years of planning. Others begin with a decision to stop waiting.
For Michael and Michelle, life had already happened. They had been together for ten years, built a family with three wonderful children, established successful careers, and created a life they were proud of. What they hadn't done was celebrate their marriage in a way that truly reflected who they were.
So instead of planning a large traditional wedding, they chose something far more meaningful: an intimate destination elopement in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Michelle is half Puerto Rican, making the island much more than simply a beautiful destination. It represented heritage, family, and a connection to a place that already held significance in her heart. For the two of them, Puerto Rico was the perfect place to finally experience the wedding day they never had.
From Texas to Puerto Rico for an Intimate Elopement
A close look at the ring that symbolizes a decade together and the beginning of a new chapter celebrated in Puerto Rico.
Michael and Michelle traveled from the Fort Worth, Texas area to celebrate their love in one of the most historic cities in the Caribbean.
Their story began over a decade ago at a local hookah lounge. Michelle was a regular there before eventually working at the lounge herself. As fate would have it, Michael later moved across the street, and what started as a chance connection slowly grew into a relationship that would last a lifetime.
They dated for five years before legally getting married, but life quickly became busy. Careers advanced. Michael transitioned from commercial real estate into his current role as a Department of Defense contractor, while Michelle built a career in healthcare. Along the way, they welcomed three beautiful children into their family—a nine-year-old, a four-year-old, and a two-year-old who, as they lovingly joked during our consultation, was "a happy accident."
Like so many couples, the wedding itself kept getting postponed while life took priority.
Eventually, they decided it was time to celebrate their marriage properly.
Why Puerto Rico is Perfect for Destination Elopements
A timeless black and white portrait celebrating the intimacy that comes from ten years of love, friendship, and building a family together.
There are countless reasons couples choose Puerto Rico for their destination wedding or elopement.
For some, it's the tropical scenery.
For others, it's the convenience of traveling to a Caribbean island without needing a passport if traveling from the mainland United States.
For Michael and Michelle, it was also deeply personal.
Puerto Rico offered beautiful beaches, centuries-old Spanish architecture, incredible food, vibrant culture, and a meaningful connection to Michelle's Puerto Rican heritage.
It's one of the reasons I believe Puerto Rico elopements continue to become more popular every year. Couples aren't simply traveling somewhere beautiful—they're creating an experience they'll remember forever.
A Hidden Corner of Old San Juan
When people think about eloping in Old San Juan, they almost immediately picture El Morro.
Overlooking San Juan Bay, Michael and Michelle paused to take in the beauty of Puerto Rico before continuing their celebration through the city's historic streets.
It's certainly iconic.
But iconic doesn't always mean ideal.
Originally, we planned to photograph their ceremony there. After scouting the location, however, it became obvious that it wasn't going to deliver the experience they deserved.
The grass had turned yellow from the summer heat.
The fort itself was partially covered in scaffolding.
Dozens of families were flying kites across the lawn.
Tourists filled nearly every frame.
Instead of spending hours removing thirty people from every photograph in Photoshop, we pivoted.
One of the greatest advantages of hiring a local elopement photographer in Puerto Rico is knowing when to abandon the obvious location in favor of something even better.
We moved to Bastión de San Agustín.
It's one of my favorite hidden gems inside the historic walls of Old San Juan.
Quiet.
Private.
Intimate.
The kind of place where couples can exchange vows without an audience.
Sometimes the best locations are the ones most visitors never discover.
Beginning with Connection Instead of Posing
A quiet forehead kiss as the afternoon light sculpted every detail of their portraits before sunset.
I almost never begin an elopement session with complicated poses.
Instead, I ask couples to simply be together.
To talk.
To laugh.
To remember why they're there.
Those first few minutes allow real emotions to replace nervous energy.
As Michael and Michelle settled into the experience, genuine smiles appeared effortlessly.
Those authentic moments are always more meaningful than anything I could direct.
Using Short Lighting for More Dramatic Portraits
That’s a look that’s been ten years in the making.
One technique I rely on throughout nearly every portrait session is short lighting.
Rather than photographing people from the same direction as the sun, I prefer photographing from the opposite side of the light source.
Doing so creates deeper shadows across the face while beautifully sculpting the jawline and adding separation from the background.
Golden hour in Old San Juan creates the perfect conditions for this approach.
The warm Caribbean sunlight becomes a natural studio light, producing portraits that feel timeless, dimensional, and cinematic.
It's subtle, but it makes an enormous difference.
Editorial Composition Through Offset Photography
Watching the sun disappear beyond San Juan Bay together after finally celebrating the wedding day they had waited years to experience.
Once we captured intimate close-ups, we transitioned into what I often call offset photography.
Instead of placing couples directly beside each other, I stagger their positions.
Sometimes one partner stands slightly in front.
Sometimes one stands behind.
Sometimes they're offset just enough that I can layer them against the background while using a shallow depth of field to isolate one subject.
This approach creates photographs that feel less traditional and more editorial.
It also gives every image movement, depth, and a sense of intentional design.
Old San Juan offers endless opportunities for these kinds of compositions because every stone wall, tree, and pathway naturally adds layers to the frame.
Golden Hour and Flash Photography
I call this the ‘almost’ kiss; the Sun was a paid actor.
As the sun approached the horizon, I introduced flash.
Many photographers pack away their lights during golden hour.
I tend to do the opposite.
By carefully balancing ambient sunset light with a single flash, I can preserve the incredible colors of the sky while adding dimension and clarity to my subjects.
For this session, I intentionally limited myself to just one lens and one flash.
Creative limitations often force better decisions.
Instead of constantly changing equipment, I focused entirely on light, composition, and storytelling.
Looking back at these images, I genuinely believe they're among the strongest flash portraits I've created all year.
Perhaps even in my career.
Sometimes less equipment leads to more creativity.
More Than Just Beautiful Portraits
When you have no words for a moment, your eyes speak for you.
Michael and Michelle's elopement wasn't about trends.
It wasn't about impressing guests.
It wasn't about creating a production.
It was about finally celebrating ten years together in a place that meant something to them.
Watching them walk through the historic streets of Old San Juan, surrounded by centuries of history and overlooking San Juan Bay at sunset, it became obvious that waiting hadn't diminished the significance of the moment.
If anything, it had made it even more meaningful.
Planning Your Own Puerto Rico Elopement
What a way to end an epic elopement in Puerto Rico!
If you're considering leaving behind the stress of a traditional wedding, Puerto Rico offers one of the most rewarding destinations anywhere in the Caribbean.
Whether you envision exchanging vows inside the historic walls of Old San Juan, standing atop dramatic coastal cliffs, walking along secluded beaches, or celebrating beneath towering tropical trees, every location offers something uniquely unforgettable.
As an elopement photographer in Puerto Rico, my goal isn't simply to create beautiful images.
It's to help couples discover locations they may never have found on their own, adapt when circumstances change, and document their day in a way that feels authentic, elegant, and timeless.
Every couple has a story worth telling.
Michael and Michelle's reminds us that it's never too late to celebrate the life you've built together.
If you're dreaming about your own Puerto Rico elopement, I'd love to help you create an experience that's every bit as unforgettable as the photographs you'll take home.
The Best Luxury Resorts in Puerto Rico for The Escapade Experience
From the rainforest to secluded beaches and historic coastal retreats, discover Puerto Rico's most luxurious wedding resorts and learn why they're the perfect setting for The Escapade—a wedding experience designed for couples who value adventure, intimacy, and extraordinary memories.
For decades, Puerto Rico has quietly become one of the Caribbean's premier luxury wedding destinations. Why These Resorts Were Made for The Escapade
Luxury is no longer measured solely by thread count, marble bathrooms, or Michelin-starred restaurants. Today's discerning couples value something far more meaningful: time together, genuine experiences, and the freedom to celebrate without feeling confined by a rigid schedule.
That philosophy is the foundation of The Escapade.
Rather than viewing your wedding as a single day, imagine it as a curated journey. Sip aged rum at Casa Bacardí, sail into the sunset aboard a private catamaran, unwind with a couples spa treatment, stroll hand in hand through Old San Juan's historic streets, or watch the sun disappear beyond the Atlantic from a secluded beach. These aren't distractions from your wedding—they become part of your wedding story.
Each of the resorts featured above provides the ideal setting for that kind of celebration. Whether you're drawn to cliffside vistas at Royal Isabela, rainforest tranquility at The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, the refined grandeur of Dorado Beach, or the timeless elegance of Condado Vanderbilt, your resort becomes more than a venue. It becomes the backdrop for a deeply personal experience.
When the celebration ends, what remains are not just beautiful photographs, but vivid memories of a journey shared together. That is the heart of The Escapade: preserving not only how your wedding looked, but how it felt.
Puerto Rico Elopements: Why José & Laura Chose an Intimate Beach Elopement at Escambrón Beach
Discover why José and Laura chose an intimate beach wedding instead of a traditional celebration. Their Escambrón Beach ceremony perfectly illustrates why Puerto Rico elopements have become one of the most meaningful ways to say "I do."
The elopement decoration was awe-inspiring.
When most people imagine getting married, they picture hundreds of guests, months of planning and an endless list of obligations. But for many modern couples, that's no longer the dream. More and more couples are discovering that Puerto Rico elopements offer something far more meaningful: privacy, authenticity and the freedom to celebrate their love on their own terms.
After seven wonderful years together, José and Laura knew exactly what mattered most.
Laura making her entrance to her elopement in Puerto Rico in lovely company.
Parents of two teenagers and successful business owners living in Columbia, South Carolina, they weren't searching for a grand ballroom or an elaborate reception. They wanted something peaceful. Something intentional. Most importantly, they wanted an experience centered entirely around the people who mattered most: themselves and their children.
As one of the leading Puerto Rico elopement photographers, these are exactly the kinds of celebrations that remind me why I fell in love with documenting intimate weddings.
Why More Couples Are Choosing Elopements in Puerto Rico
Laura looking into the eyes of forever during her Puerto Rico elopement.
There has been a noticeable shift in the wedding industry over the last several years.
Rather than spending months coordinating large events, many couples are investing in unforgettable experiences instead. Elopements in Puerto Rico offer incredible scenery, year-round tropical weather, legal marriage options for destination couples and an atmosphere that naturally encourages intimacy.
For José and Laura, Escambrón Beach checked every box.
José and Laura exchanged vows overlooking the Caribbean Sea during their intimate Escambrón Beach elopement.
Located just minutes from Old San Juan, Escambrón combines crystal-clear Caribbean waters, dramatic limestone boulders, lush green spaces and historic architecture within walking distance. Few locations provide so much visual variety without requiring extensive travel.
It's one of my favorite places to photograph intimate weddings because every few steps reveal an entirely different backdrop.
Transforming a Symbolic Ceremony into a Legal Puerto Rico Elopement
A beautifully simple ceremony proves that intimate weddings can be incredibly elegant.
Originally, José planned to exchange symbolic vows.
As we continued planning, however, he realized he wanted the day to become their official wedding day.
To make that possible, I invited my longtime friend Marilyn to officiate the ceremony. Beyond delivering heartfelt ceremonies, she also manages all the legal documentation required to make the marriage official in Puerto Rico.
Elopements in Puerto Rico are always a reason to celebrate.
Having experienced professionals involved allowed José and Laura to focus solely on enjoying the moment while every logistical detail was handled behind the scenes.
That peace of mind is one of the greatest advantages of working with experienced elopement photographers in Puerto Rico who maintain relationships with trusted local vendors.
Building an Intimate Experience
The sweetest champagne you’ll ever have is after your elopement in Puerto Rico.
Although the celebration remained intentionally small, every detail contributed to creating a memorable experience.
Anna Karina, an exceptionally talented violinist I've worked alongside many times, performed throughout the ceremony, filling the beach with beautiful music as the couple exchanged vows.
José also requested professional video coverage, so I invited my friend Bryan to document the day alongside me. While I focused on photography, Bryan captured the emotion and movement that photographs alone cannot preserve.
Their wedding day ended with a peaceful walk along one of Puerto Rico's most beautiful beaches.
To complete the setting, my friends at I Do Proposal designed an elegant beachfront ceremony space despite specializing primarily in marriage proposals. They created a sophisticated white floral installation that blended beautifully into the natural surroundings without overwhelming the landscape.
The result was proof that simplicity often creates the greatest elegance.
A Perfect Morning at Escambrón Beach
What’s an elopement in Puerto Rico without sneaking in a few kisses?
Bryan and I arrived early to prepare for the ceremony.
The weather couldn't have cooperated more. Bright sunshine illuminated the turquoise water while a refreshing ocean breeze reminded us that nature always plays its own role during beach weddings.
The wind challenged us at times, but it also brought movement to Laura's dress and added life to the photographs.
Marilyn officiated with her trademark professionalism while Anna's violin echoed across the shoreline.
As photographers and filmmakers, Bryan and I quietly circled the ceremony documenting genuine interactions between José, Laura, their children and the incredible team of vendors who helped make everything possible.
The look on your face when you elope in Puerto Rico.
Within twenty minutes, they had exchanged vows, signed their marriage license and officially become husband and wife.
Immediately afterward, we began their portrait session.
One of the greatest advantages of Escambrón Beach is the incredible diversity of locations available within only a few minutes' walk. We photographed along the rocky shoreline, open grassy areas overlooking the ocean and historic stone structures that added timeless character to their gallery.
The entire experience remained relaxed, intimate and completely focused on the couple.
Why Puerto Rico Elopements Continue to Inspire Me
José gazing into Laura’s eyes during their Puerto Rico elopement.
As someone who photographs weddings throughout Puerto Rico, I genuinely believe there is something incredibly special about intimate celebrations.
Without timelines dictated by hundreds of guests or endless formalities, couples are free to be fully present with one another.
Every laugh feels genuine.
Every embrace lasts a little longer.
Golden Hour flash photography for José and Laura during their elopement in Puerto Rico.
Every photograph carries more meaning.
José and Laura reminded me that a wedding doesn't need to be extravagant to become unforgettable.
Sometimes, all you need is the person you love, your closest family members, the sound of the ocean and a beautiful Caribbean sunrise.
If you're searching for experienced Puerto Rico elopement photographers, I'd love to help you create an experience that feels authentic, relaxed and entirely your own.
Whether you're planning one of the many breathtaking Puerto Rico elopements on the beach, in Old San Juan, atop a mountain or deep within the rainforest, my goal is always the same: to create timeless photographs while allowing you to fully enjoy one of the most meaningful days of your life.
Because sometimes, the smallest weddings create the biggest memories.

Villa del Balbianello: The Most Cinematic Luxury Wedding Venue on Lake Como, Italy
Perched above the waters of Lake Como, Villa del Balbianello is one of the most iconic luxury wedding venues in all of Italy. In this guide, discover the villa’s fascinating history, why affluent couples from around the world choose it for their weddings and elopements, and how to begin the booking process for an unforgettable celebration on Lake Como.
An Italian dream framed by cypress trees and the mountains of Lake Como.
There are luxury wedding venues, and then there are places so visually extraordinary that they feel suspended somewhere between reality and cinema. Villa del Balbianello belongs firmly in the latter category.
Perched dramatically above the shimmering waters of Lake Como in northern Italy, Villa del Balbianello has become synonymous with elegance, exclusivity, and timeless romance. With its manicured gardens, towering cypress trees, historic architecture, and panoramic alpine views, the villa possesses a level of atmosphere that few wedding venues in the world can rival.
For affluent couples seeking an intimate wedding or luxury elopement in Italy, Villa del Balbianello represents more than simply a venue. It represents an experience. One rooted in cinematic beauty, European sophistication, and the feeling of stepping into another era entirely.
Having personally visited the villa in November, it quickly became apparent why it has become one of the most sought-after wedding destinations on Earth. The scale of the scenery is breathtaking, yet the property itself still manages to feel deeply intimate. Every pathway, terrace, staircase, and garden seems intentionally designed for storytelling. It is a place where light moves beautifully throughout the day and where nearly every direction offers an unforgettable frame.
For couples considering a destination wedding in Lake Como, Villa del Balbianello offers a uniquely immersive experience that combines privacy, luxury, and visual grandeur in a way that feels almost impossible to replicate elsewhere.
The History of Villa del Balbianello
The kind of view that makes time feel irrelevant.
One of the defining aspects of Villa del Balbianello is that its beauty is not superficial. The villa carries centuries of history within its walls, giving every wedding hosted there an unmistakable sense of depth and legacy.
The Villa Was Originally Built in the 18th Century
Villa del Balbianello was commissioned in 1787 by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, who desired a retreat dedicated to literature, culture, and leisure. The villa was constructed on the site of a former Franciscan monastery, remnants of which can still be identified throughout the property today.
It Sits on One of the Most Scenic Peninsulas on Lake Como
Unlike many properties along Lake Como, Villa del Balbianello occupies a wooded peninsula that extends directly into the lake itself. This unique positioning creates uninterrupted panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and water, making it one of the most visually distinctive estates in Italy.
This is what destination wedding dreams are made of.
The Villa Has Appeared in Major Hollywood Films
Villa del Balbianello is perhaps best known internationally for its appearances in films such as Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and the James Bond film Casino Royale. Its cinematic atmosphere has contributed heavily to its legendary status among international travelers and luxury wedding clients alike.
Explorer Guido Monzino Once Called It Home
A villa suspended somewhere between history and cinema.
The villa was later owned by Guido Monzino, an Italian explorer and businessman who became the first Italian to summit Mount Everest. Monzino transformed the estate into a remarkable private residence filled with artifacts and treasures collected from his expeditions around the world.
It Is Now Protected by the Italian Environmental Fund
Today, Villa del Balbianello is managed by FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano), an organization dedicated to preserving Italy’s cultural and historical landmarks. This stewardship ensures that the villa maintains its extraordinary character while remaining available for select luxury events and weddings.
Why Couples Choose Villa del Balbianello for Their Wedding or Elopement
Lake Como in November felt cinematic in every direction.
Luxury weddings are no longer solely about scale. Increasingly, affluent couples are prioritizing atmosphere, intentionality, exclusivity, and emotional experience over sheer size. Villa del Balbianello aligns perfectly with this shift.
The venue feels inherently cinematic without appearing manufactured. Nothing about the property feels artificial or overly curated. Instead, it possesses the kind of effortless beauty that only centuries of history and exceptional natural surroundings can create.
For couples planning an elopement in Lake Como, the villa offers extraordinary intimacy. Arriving by private boat across the lake transforms the experience immediately. From the moment the villa emerges from the shoreline, there is a palpable sense of anticipation and grandeur.
The famous loggia terrace—framed by ivy-covered arches and overlooking Lake Como—has become one of the most iconic ceremony locations in Europe. Yet despite its fame, it still feels deeply personal when experienced in person.
The property is equally suited for multi-day destination wedding celebrations. Rehearsal dinners, luxury welcome events, editorial bridal portraits, private boat excursions, and farewell brunches can all be incorporated seamlessly into the overall experience.
The Best Time of Year to Get Married at Villa del Balbianello
Villa del Balbianello feels less like a venue and more like a film set.
While Lake Como weddings are most commonly associated with spring and summer, each season offers a distinct atmosphere.
Spring brings vibrant gardens and softer temperatures, while summer offers long golden evenings ideal for boat excursions and outdoor receptions. Autumn introduces rich tones throughout the landscape and often provides a more intimate atmosphere with fewer tourists.
My own experience visiting Villa del Balbianello in November revealed an entirely different side of Lake Como—one that felt quieter, moodier, and extraordinarily cinematic. The snow-dusted mountains surrounding the lake contrasted beautifully against the warm Mediterranean light, creating an atmosphere that felt simultaneously luxurious and deeply emotional.
How to Book a Wedding at Villa del Balbianello
Italian elegance at its absolute finest.
Couples interested in hosting their wedding or elopement at Villa del Balbianello should begin the process as early as possible, particularly for peak-season dates.
The villa is managed by FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano), and wedding inquiries can be submitted directly through their official website.
For wedding availability and booking inquiries, couples can visit:
FAI – Villa del Balbianello Weddings
Due to the exclusivity and demand surrounding the venue, many couples also work alongside luxury destination wedding planners specializing in Lake Como weddings. These planners typically assist with vendor coordination, transportation logistics, accommodations, floral design, and guest experiences throughout Italy.
Why Photography Matters at Villa del Balbianello
Sunlight, stillness, and Lake Como.
Villa del Balbianello is not a venue that should simply be documented. It should be interpreted thoughtfully.
The property’s scale, architecture, changing light, and intricate landscaping require a photographer capable of balancing editorial artistry with emotional storytelling. Every hour of the day transforms the villa visually. Morning light feels soft and romantic, midday creates vibrant contrast against the lake, and sunset produces an almost surreal glow across the mountains and water.
For couples investing in a wedding experience of this magnitude, photography becomes more than a service—it becomes preservation. The imagery created there should feel timeless, cinematic, and emotionally immersive.
As destination weddings continue evolving toward more intentional and experience-driven celebrations, Villa del Balbianello remains one of the clearest examples of what luxury truly means: exclusivity, atmosphere, emotional resonance, and unforgettable beauty.
Golden light moves differently on Lake Como.
Villa del Balbianello: The Best Wedding Venue in Lake Como (and Why I’m Ready to Photograph Yours There)
Villa del Balbianello is one of Italy’s most iconic wedding venues—an elegant oasis perched on the shores of Lake Como. During my recent trip to Italy, I walked its famous gardens, scouted every photogenic corner, and instantly knew I wanted to return again and again. While I’m based in Puerto Rico, I’m now traveling to Italy more frequently, and I’m thrilled to offer couples the chance to bring me back to photograph their wedding at this extraordinary villa.
The gardens of Villa del Balbianello feel like stepping into a painting—every curve, every terrace, every sculpted hedge telling its own love story.
There are places in the world that feel like they were built for love stories—Villa del Balbianello is one of them. Sitting on the tip of a dramatic promontory on Lake Como, wrapped in sculpted gardens and wrapped again in cinematic history, this villa has a magnetic pull that every romantic (and photographer) feels instantly.
During my most recent two-week trip to Italy—a trip I’ve been dreaming about since I began studying the language—I made it a non-negotiable mission to visit this villa in person. And let me tell you…the photos don’t lie, but the experience is even better.
As I walked the pathways, photographed the terraced gardens, and soaked in those iconic lake views, one thing became very clear:
This is not “just another wedding venue.” This is the apex of luxury destination weddings. And I’m officially ready to start flying back whenever a couple says the word.
A Villa With a History Worthy of an Italian Love Story
Lake Como has a way of stopping time… and the gardens at Balbianello are where that magic is strongest.
Villa del Balbianello dates back to the 18th century, when Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini established it as a place for art, culture and refined gatherings. In the 20th century, explorer Guido Monzino transformed it once more, filling it with treasures from his world expeditions before donating it to FAI (Italy’s National Trust).
Thanks to this stewardship, the Villa has been preserved with obsessive attention to detail—everything from the symmetrical gardens to the ivy-covered facades looks like it was designed to frame wedding portraits.
And cinematic fans already know: James Bond, Padmé & Anakin, and countless real-life couples have stood here before you. It’s prestige built on history, beauty, and a little bit of Hollywood magic.
Why Couples Choose Villa del Balbianello
Some venues whisper elegance. Villa del Balbianello sings it.
1. Ultra-Exclusive Atmosphere
This venue is reserved for couples who want an elevated, bespoke experience. Balbianello doesn’t “host weddings”—it curates them.
2. The Gardens (Yes, Those Gardens)
Perfectly manicured, endlessly photogenic, and offering multiple backdrops—from the terraces to the sculpted shrubbery—I photographed them extensively during my last visit and I’m already imagining how stunning they would look with a bride and groom.
3. The Iconic Loggia
The three-arched Loggia is one of the most recognizable wedding backdrops in the world. At golden hour? Pure magic.
4. The Boat Arrival
Arriving by boat at your own wedding feels a little bit like entering a movie scene. For photography purposes, it’s ridiculously cinematic.
5. The Ultimate Luxury Destination
Villa del Balbianello is synonymous with Italian elegance and deep exclusivity. It’s not an everyday venue—and that’s the entire point.
Booking a Wedding at Villa del Balbianello: What Couples Should Know
Where history, nature and Italian romance collide—this garden is a masterpiece all on its own.
While only the Villa’s team (FAI) can give official details, here’s the general outline:
Weddings over 50 guests usually require a full buy-out of the villa.
Small elopements or intimate ceremonies can sometimes be held during public opening hours.
Marquees are often required for receptions.
Boat access, not road access, is the standard approach for guests and vendors.
Photography permissions and certain equipment restrictions apply. (More reason to hire someone familiar with the logistics!)
Pricing varies widely but sits firmly in the luxury bracket—this is a venue for high-end, detail-driven celebrations.
Every couple I speak to is connected directly with the Villa’s official team so they receive live availability, updated venue rules, and accurate pricing.
Why I’m Eager to Photograph More Weddings in Lake Como
Every corner of Balbianello’s garden feels intentional, romantic, and quietly breathtaking—Italy at its most poetic.
Even though I’m based in Puerto Rico, I’ve been spending more and more time in Italy—and trust me, I have zero intention of slowing down. Italy has always spoken to my artist soul: the language, the architecture, the light, the old-world romance…I’m hooked.
I’m committed to returning to Lake Como regularly to photograph couples who want that refined, editorial style fused with a bit of cinematic storytelling. If you’re dreaming of a wedding at Villa del Balbianello, I’ll happily board a plane for you—gear packed, Italian phrases ready, espresso in hand.
My Approach to Photographing Villa del Balbianello Weddings
Exploring Balbianello felt like walking through a dream. I can’t wait to photograph a wedding here soon.
Romantic Editorial Storytelling
This villa deserves more than simple documentation—it needs cinematic storytelling with editorial polish.
Golden Hour Mastery
I specifically scout for the best backdrops with buttery sunset light. The loggia, the ivy tunnel, the terraces—all of them photograph differently throughout the day.
Artful Composition of Architecture + Emotion
Balbianello is architectural perfection. I balance the couple’s intimacy with the villa’s grandeur.
Italian Light Lover
Italian sunshine is unique—soft, warm, and golden. My style embraces it.
Efficient Timeline Flow
Because the villa has structured access rules, I help couples build timelines that maximize our shooting windows.
