A Luxury Wedding at El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico

A modern love story that began on Bumble led to a breathtaking luxury wedding at El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, complete with drone photography, oceanfront vows, and bold editorial portraits.

When Rhianna first reached out to me in mid-August of 2025, she let me know that she and Bryce were planning to tie the knot at El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. As soon as I saw the venue name pop up in my inbox, I knew this was going to be special. El Conquistador is one of the most iconic luxury wedding venues in Puerto Rico, perched high above the Atlantic with panoramic ocean views that feel cinematic at every turn.

There was one additional request in her email that immediately stood out: they wanted aerial photography. Bryce is apparently a drone enthusiast, and incorporating drone coverage into their wedding day felt less like an add-on and more like a statement. At a venue like El Conquistador Resort, where architecture meets coastline in dramatic fashion, aerial wedding photography elevates the entire visual narrative.

Shortly after her initial inquiry, we scheduled a virtual meeting. Within minutes of the cameras turning on, we were vibing. One of my favorite icebreakers with couples is asking how they met. Rhianna and Bryce’s story began on Bumble, the dating app where women make the first move. Two years later, they were inseparable and planning a destination wedding in Puerto Rico overlooking the ocean. Modern love at its finest.

Fast forward to the wedding day.

On my drive to Fajardo, I noticed Rhianna had added a fourth person to our three-way iMessage thread. That person turned out to be Jessica, her longtime friend and an event planner back home, who had generously stepped in as their day-of coordinator. That single addition changed everything. While I often bring a second shooter to larger celebrations, intimate weddings like this allow me to operate solo and move freely. Jessica sent over a timeline breakdown—screenshot and all—and ran the day with quiet authority and precision. It was seamless, and I was free to focus entirely on storytelling.

We began with Bryce and his crew inside the cigar bar at El Conquistador Resort, one of my favorite locations on property for groom portraits. The interior lends itself beautifully to my signature dark and moody aesthetic. I captured a series of window-lit portraits of Bryce before inviting his groomsmen into the frame for a few relaxed, editorial-leaning moments. There’s something timeless about a groom surrounded by his inner circle before walking into one of the biggest days of his life.

From there, we made our way downstairs to one of the resort gardens for family portraits with Bryce’s closest relatives. The lush greenery and ocean air provided a refined yet organic backdrop that perfectly balanced the architecture of the hotel.

Jessica then whisked me upstairs to Rhianna’s suite, where the energy shifted into that beautiful pre-ceremony anticipation. Rhianna was putting the finishing touches on her hair and makeup, surrounded by her closest friends. With Jessica’s assistance, I photographed the wedding rings and the sand they would later use during their ceremony to symbolize unity. Those detail shots matter. They anchor the emotional story.

I documented Rhianna’s getting-ready moments using the suite’s mirror for layered compositions and the chaise lounge for a more editorial setup. We draped her wedding dress over the chair, allowing the fabric to cascade naturally, adding texture and dimension. Toward the end, I stepped out onto the balcony with her and captured portraits overlooking the ceremony site below. The ocean shimmered in the background, and you could feel the magnitude of what was about to happen.

On our way to the ceremony garden, we paused at a stunning cement archway that felt architecturally striking against the tropical surroundings. Jessica and I agreed instantly—it was the perfect place for standalone bridal portraits. I quickly introduced off-camera flash to preserve the ambient environment while adding sculpted light to Rhianna’s features. The result was clean, editorial, and refined.

As guests took their seats, Yuber, my drone pilot, already had the drone in the air. Timing could not have been better. He captured Rhianna’s walk toward the ceremony archway from above, with Bryce waiting just ahead and the ocean stretching endlessly beyond them. This is why drone wedding photography at El Conquistador Resort is so powerful—it contextualizes the scale and beauty of the setting in a way ground photography simply cannot.

The ceremony unfolded exactly as you would hope. Vows were exchanged with tear-filled eyes. The first kiss was deeply moving. Bryce’s father, Scott, officiated and delivered a speech that balanced humor and heartfelt emotion effortlessly. As the ceremony concluded, the drone performed one final fly-by over the entire wedding party, capturing everyone waving as it climbed high into the sky over the water. It was cinematic, celebratory, and unforgettable. Afterward, I grabbed a few dynamic portraits of Rhianna and Bryce using flash for added dimension. But I wasn’t done yet.

I had one more image in mind—an editorial portrait to close out the story. Inside the hotel, the couple had secured a private bar featuring a pool table. The setting was moody, refined, and slightly rebellious in the best way. I laid Rhianna across the billiard table, allowing her gown to spill over the felt. She held a celebratory cigar, while Bryce stood confidently beside her with his own cigar and a billiard stick in hand. It was bold, stylish, and unapologetically modern.

For me, as a luxury wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, that image felt like the perfect exclamation point. It blended romance, personality, and editorial flair—exactly what I strive to create for every couple who trusts me with their story.

Rhianna and Bryce’s wedding at El Conquistador Resort was intimate yet grand, emotional yet playful, modern yet timeless. A true destination wedding in Puerto Rico that celebrated not only love—but individuality.

What a fitting end!

The Rise of the Anti-Wedding Trend: Why More Couples Are Saying No to Traditional Weddings

Discover the rising anti-wedding trend and why couples are ditching traditions for intimate, unique celebrations. As a Puerto Rico wedding photographer, I explore why elopements, micro-weddings, and adventure ceremonies in Puerto Rico are becoming the top choice. Learn how to create an authentic, stress-free wedding experience in a breathtaking destination.

Anti-weddings are here to stay

In recent years, a growing number of couples have been turning away from traditional wedding expectations in favor of a more personal and meaningful celebration. This movement, often called the "anti-wedding" trend, is changing the way weddings are planned and executed. As a Puerto Rico wedding photographer, I’ve noticed that many couples traveling here for destination weddings are opting for unique, non-traditional experiences rather than the typical grand ballroom celebration. But what exactly is the anti-wedding movement, and why is it gaining popularity?

What is the Anti-Wedding Trend?

Do whatever you want.

An anti-wedding is a deliberate rejection of conventional wedding norms. Instead of a large, highly structured event, couples are embracing smaller, more intimate, and unconventional celebrations that reflect their personalities. Some key elements of anti-weddings include:

  • Ditching traditional wedding attire – Brides may opt for a colorful dress, a jumpsuit, or even thrifted fashion, while grooms might skip the tux altogether.

  • Choosing unique venues – From beachfront elopements to casual backyard gatherings, couples are selecting spaces that hold sentimental value over extravagant wedding halls.

  • Reducing guest lists – Many anti-weddings feature micro-weddings or elopements, prioritizing quality time with close family and friends rather than hosting hundreds of guests.

  • Skipping unnecessary traditions – No bouquet toss, no bridal party, no rehearsed first dance—just an authentic experience tailored to the couple’s preferences.

  • Prioritizing experience over performance – The focus is on the moment rather than creating an Instagram-worthy aesthetic.

For wedding photographers in Puerto Rico, this shift has been especially exciting. The flexibility of anti-weddings allows for creative storytelling, capturing raw emotions, stunning landscapes, and deeply personal moments.

Why is the Anti-Wedding Trend Growing?

Think outside-the-box

Pandemic-Induced Changes

COVID-19 forced many couples to rethink their wedding plans, leading to an increase in elopements and micro-weddings. Even after restrictions lifted, many couples realized they preferred the intimacy and affordability of a smaller celebration over the stress of a large wedding.

Rising Wedding Costs

The average cost of a traditional wedding in the U.S. is over $30,000. Many couples are questioning whether it’s worth the expense when they could use that money for travel, a home, or personal goals instead.

Breaking Free from Wedding Industry Expectations

Couples today value authenticity over tradition. The pressure from social media and the wedding industry to create a "perfect" wedding has become exhausting. Instead, many couples are rejecting these pressures and focusing on what truly matters to them.

A Shift in Priorities for Millennials & Gen Z

Younger generations are prioritizing experiences, sustainability, and financial responsibility over extravagant displays. They’re choosing meaningful, memorable weddings over conventional extravagance.

How Puerto Rico is Becoming an Anti-Wedding Destination

There’s a grey area to weddings.

Puerto Rico is emerging as an ideal location for couples seeking an anti-wedding experience. With breathtaking beaches, lush mountains, and charming historic sites, it offers the perfect backdrop for intimate and unique weddings. As a Puerto Rico wedding photographer, I’ve captured ceremonies on remote beaches, in hidden rainforest waterfalls, and within the colorful streets of Old San Juan—each one designed to reflect the couple’s unique love story rather than adhere to wedding norms.

Why Puerto Rico is the Perfect Anti-Wedding Destination:

  1. Stunning, Natural Beauty – From white-sand beaches to tropical forests, Puerto Rico provides a diverse range of breathtaking settings for intimate ceremonies.

  2. Affordability Compared to Traditional Venues – Many couples find that hosting an elopement or micro-wedding in Puerto Rico is far more cost-effective than a large event in the U.S.

  3. Adventure & Experience-Based Weddings – Couples are incorporating adventurous activities like hiking, surfing, and sailing into their wedding day to make it unforgettable.

  4. Laid-Back Atmosphere – Unlike the rigid structure of traditional weddings, Puerto Rico offers a relaxed vibe perfect for couples seeking an authentic and stress-free experience.

Capturing the Anti-Wedding Spirit as a Wedding Photographer in Puerto Rico

All day I dream about anti-weddings

For wedding photographers in Puerto Rico, anti-weddings offer the chance to document weddings in a more organic and emotional way. Instead of focusing on staged moments, we capture the natural chemistry between couples, the breathtaking scenery, and the raw emotions of the day.

If you’re considering an anti-wedding in Puerto Rico, let’s create something truly unforgettable. Whether you’re eloping on a secluded beach or hosting an intimate dinner with loved ones, I’d love to be your Puerto Rico wedding photographer, capturing the moments that truly matter. Transform Your Wedding Photography Business with Essential Tools

Wedding Photography Business

As a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to break into the industry. That’s why I’m excited to introduce my newly launched online store at FrancisAlvarez.com/store, specifically tailored to help photographers transition into the wedding photography niche. With three powerful tools—my personalized wedding photography questionnaire, a comprehensive wedding contract, and the Evoke Lightroom Preset Pack—this store offers everything you need to elevate your business.

1. The Wedding Questionnaire: A Must-Have for Stellar Client Relationships

Answering a questionnaire puts you in a position to succeed with prospective clients.

Understanding your clients’ expectations is critical for delivering exceptional results. My wedding photography questionnaire is designed to help you gather essential details like the couple’s preferred style, must-have shots, and the wedding day timeline. Imagine showing up to a shoot fully prepared, knowing you’re capturing what matters most to your clients. This tool bridges the communication gap, ensuring you and your clients are always on the same page.

2. The Wedding Contract: Protect Your Business and Build Trust

One of the biggest challenges for new wedding photographers is navigating the legal side of the business. My wedding contract template ensures you have a clear, professional agreement in place. From payment terms to cancellation policies, this contract covers it all. Protecting your business while setting expectations fosters trust with clients—a vital component for growth in such a competitive industry.

3. Evoke Lightroom Preset Pack: Perfect Editing Made Easy

Editing can make or break your portfolio. That’s why I created the Evoke Lightroom Preset Pack, designed to give your photos a polished, timeless look. Whether you’re just starting out or are an experienced editor, these presets simplify the editing process while delivering consistent results. Aspiring wedding photographers often struggle with developing a signature editing style; Evoke can help you stand out and attract high-end clients.

4. Why These Tools Are Game-Changers for Wedding Photographers

Breaking into wedding photography isn’t just about having the right camera gear—it’s about professionalism, preparation, and presentation. These tools address common pain points: clear client communication, legal protection, and consistent editing. By investing in these essentials, you’re positioning yourself as a trusted professional ready to book dream weddings.

5. Examples That Highlight the Importance of These Tools

A wedding photography contract template is very important to have for your photography business.

Having a wedding contract in place is a great way to get on the same with everyone involved.

Imagine this scenario: You book a destination wedding in Puerto Rico and arrive without a clear understanding of the couple’s vision. The day becomes chaotic, leading to missed moments. A detailed wedding questionnaire would have prevented this, ensuring a seamless workflow and satisfied clients. Similarly, having a solid contract safeguards you against last-minute cancellations, ensuring your time and effort are respected.

6. Affordable Pricing for Aspiring Wedding Photographers

I understand that when you’re starting out, every dollar counts. That’s why I’ve priced these tools aggressively to make them accessible to aspiring photographers. Each item in the store is designed to deliver value far beyond its cost, helping you achieve professional results without breaking the bank.

7. The Importance of Standing Out in a Competitive Market

As a Puerto Rico wedding photographer, I’ve seen the market become increasingly competitive. To succeed, you need more than just talent—you need the right tools to streamline your business and deliver exceptional results. These resources not only save you time but also set you apart in the eyes of potential clients.

8. How to Use These Tools to Build Your Brand

Your wedding photography journey should be about more than just booking gigs; it’s about creating a brand that couples trust. Using the wedding questionnaire ensures your clients feel heard, while the contract establishes you as a professional. Meanwhile, consistent editing with the Evoke Preset Pack helps you build a recognizable portfolio that attracts your ideal clients.

9. Why This is the Right Time to Invest in Your Business

There’s no better time to take your wedding photography career seriously.
